Wohngeld: help with housing costs
Iranian nationals in Germany may qualify for Wohngeld depending on residence status, household income, rent and other benefits. Ask the local Wohngeldstelle to assess your case and apply; eligible rent support normally starts with the application month.
Step by step
- Apply to the housing-benefit officeExplain your residence title, household, rent, income and other benefits to the local office and submit the application with its required evidence.
For rent support you must occupy the rented accommodation yourself. Household size, eligible rent and total income determine the calculation. Foreign-national eligibility requires actual presence and a qualifying residence position; some job-search and opportunity-card titles are generally excluded. An Iranian passport alone does not answer the eligibility question.
Benefits that already include accommodation costs can exclude Wohngeld, including qualifying asylum benefits. Student-support rules can also exclude households, so do not assume that a low income is enough. In Berlin use the district Wohngeld office or the official online route and follow its current evidence requirements. Receipt of the application normally determines the starting month if the conditions are met.
