Kinderkrankengeld: caring for a sick child
Iranian parents in Germany can claim Kinderkrankengeld if the insurance and care conditions are met. Obtain the medical certificate, tell your employer and apply to the Krankenkasse. The child's insurance and whether someone else at home can provide care matter.
Step by step
- Arrange certification and the claimGet the medical certificate, notify your employer and ask the fund to assess insurance, remaining days and the benefit application.
The ordinary claim requires a sick insured child under twelve, or a disabled child who needs help, and medical confirmation that you must stay away from work to provide care. Another person in the household must be unable to provide that care. Check that your own insurance includes the relevant entitlement.
For 2026 the special limit is fifteen working days per child for an insured parent and thirty for a single parent, subject to overall annual limits of thirty-five and seventy respectively. This is a rule for 2026, not a permanent promise. Unpaid release from work and benefit payment are distinct; paid release and medically necessary hospital accompaniment have separate rules.
