Kindergeld for Iranian families
An Iranian parent in Germany must meet the residence-status conditions for Kindergeld as well as the family and child conditions. Ask the Familienkasse to assess your exact title and the child’s residence; Iranian nationality and Anmeldung alone do not establish entitlement.
Step by step
- Check your exact circumstancesCompare your residence title, work situation and child’s residence with §§ 62 and 63; ask the Familienkasse about uncertain cases.
- Apply to the FamilienkasseUse the official application route, provide the requested identification and status evidence, and keep the submission confirmation.
For Iranian parents without EU free-movement rights, § 62(2) EStG contains the relevant residence-title conditions. It includes settlement and EU long-term residence permits and qualifying other titles with exceptions. A student title or humanitarian title needs a closer check rather than a blanket yes or no.
Section 63 also restricts the child’s place of residence, generally to Germany, the EU or EEA, subject to statutory exceptions. Do not assume a child living in Iran qualifies because the parent lives in Germany. The law provides identification requirements for parent and child. Apply to the responsible Familienkasse through its official electronic procedure; a signed written application is an alternative where the office waives electronic filing.
