Permanent residence: Niederlassungserlaubnis
An Iranian resident can apply for a Niederlassungserlaubnis when the requirements for their residence category are met. In Berlin, start with the LEA eligibility check; skilled workers, recognised refugees and other groups have separate routes, so the general route is not universal.
Step by step
- Choose and applyCheck your title in the LEA eligibility check, prepare the evidence listed for that route and submit its online application; retain confirmation and respond to follow-up requests.
The general Berlin route normally requires a qualifying residence permit held for five years, secured livelihood, suitable health cover, pension provision and German and civic knowledge. The official page lists exceptions and category-specific alternatives. A current student permit does not normally qualify for this general route.
Use the online procedure for the route that matches your actual title. Keep the application confirmation and supply originals listed in your invitation. Permanent residence remains a residence title; it does not make an Iranian passport holder a German citizen.
