German Reisepass after naturalisation
An Iranian passport holder needs German citizenship before applying for an ordinary German Reisepass; permanent residence alone is insufficient. If you have become German, Berlin requires a personal Bürgeramt application and evidence for the first German document.
Step by step
- Confirm citizenship and applyOnce German citizenship is established, book the Bürgeramt service, prepare the official first-document evidence and digital photo, and attend personally.
For a first application after naturalisation, Berlin lists the naturalisation certificate and your previous nationality’s passport or ID, or an LEA identity certificate. Clarify any different personal details before the appointment.
The ordinary application is in person and uses a digital biometric photo made through the authority or an authorised photo provider. Check the current fee and collection arrangements for your situation. Applying for a passport does not itself confer citizenship or extend an Iranian travel document.
