Sending money with Iran links: Geldtransfer
An Iranian resident in Germany sending money with Iran links should have the provider check the parties, banks, purpose and applicable sanctions before payment. Personal or family funds are not a blanket exemption; the Bundesbank describes prohibitions, exceptions and reporting or approval duties.
Step by step
- Obtain transaction-specific checksGive your provider the actual parties, bank route, purpose and amount; clarify prohibitions and any required notice or permission with the provider and Bundesbank before sending.
The Bundesbank describes asset freezes and restrictions on making funds available to listed parties. It also describes a general restriction on transfers between EU and Iranian financial institutions, with purpose- and amount-dependent exceptions. A lawful exception and a provider’s operational ability to execute it are separate questions.
Reporting or authorisation requirements can also concern transfers involving Iranian persons or entities. For electronic transfers the payment provider generally handles the relevant submission. Give accurate information about the recipient, intermediary banks and purpose; ask the bank and, where necessary, the Bundesbank sanctions service which rule and application apply before committing funds.
