Getting your Steuer-ID
An Iranian resident registered in Germany receives a Steuer-ID through the same registration-based process as other residents. After your first Anmeldung, the BZSt sends it to your registered address. If you lose it, request notification of the existing number.
Step by step
- Check registration and recordsComplete your required address registration and look for a number already issued to you.
- Request renewed notificationIf the number cannot be found, use the official BZSt request and check the current registered address.
The tax identification number follows you for life and does not change on moving or marriage. First address registration after arrival triggers the registration authority’s transmission to the BZSt; keep your registered postal address usable.
Look for an existing number in the BZSt letter, income-tax assessment or wage-tax certificate. If it is missing, request renewed notification through the official BZSt route linked by Berlin. Berlin says to contact BZSt if no letter has arrived within three months of first registration. Urgent personal enquiries at the tax office require suitable identity evidence.
