Pflegeversicherung: cover and benefits
Iranian nationals in Germany should check long-term care insurance alongside health insurance. Statutory members are generally insured through the Pflegekasse; privately insured people must arrange the required private cover. Care benefits require an application.
Step by step
- Contact the care insurerConfirm your care-insurance provider and prior coverage; when help is needed, apply and ask about assessment and suitable benefits.
Compulsory and voluntary statutory health-insurance members are generally subject to social long-term care insurance. People with qualifying private health cover have a separate private care-insurance obligation. Check the responsible fund or insurer instead of assuming that paying for medical treatment also settles every care-insurance question.
Social care benefits are granted on application and depend on the legal conditions, including prior insurance and assessed care needs. The general prior-insurance requirement is two insured years during the ten years before applying, with special rules for children and transfers. Contact the Pflegekasse promptly when care is needed; the application date can affect when payments start.
