Iranian students in Germany must clarify health insurance before enrolment. Ask a statutory Krankenkasse to assess your status and send the university its insurance notification, including where you use private cover or seek an exemption.

Compulsory student insurance generally applies at state or state-recognised universities until age 30, with possible extensions on statutory grounds. Other insurance, family cover and personal circumstances can change the result. Have the fund assess your Iranian and German insurance history rather than assuming an Iranian policy is sufficient.
The university needs the insurance-status notification from the responsible statutory fund. An exemption for private cover requires an application within three months after compulsory insurance begins and proof of other cover; it cannot be revoked. Understand the consequences before applying.
