Apotheke und Medikamente: prescriptions
Iranian nationals in Germany need a valid prescription for prescription-only medicines. Iranian prescriptions are outside the EU/EEA/Swiss equivalence rule. Clarify your medicine with a German doctor and ask the pharmacy about dispensing and insurance costs.
Step by step
- Clarify prescription and paymentDiscuss your existing medicine with a doctor in Germany, obtain the required prescription and ask the pharmacy about dispensing and your cost share.
Bring the names and strengths of medicines you use in Iran to the consultation so the doctor can assess the treatment. German rules determine whether a medicine requires a prescription. Do not assume that an Iranian prescription has the automatic recognition provided for qualifying European prescriptions; ask the pharmacy and treating doctor how to obtain the medicine lawfully.
Statutory insurance covers medicines within its benefit rules, with exclusions and possible co-payments or extra costs. A prescription does not necessarily mean the medicine is free. Before collecting it, ask the pharmacy what you must pay and clarify uncertain reimbursement with your insurer.
