Gesetzliche Krankenversicherung: joining a fund
For Iranian nationals in Germany, statutory health insurance depends on employment, study and other legal conditions. Ask a Krankenkasse to assess your insurance status, confirm the start of cover and check whether family insurance is available.

- Confirm membershipAsk the fund to check your circumstances and any family cover, then give its details to the reporting body and obtain confirmation of the start date.
Paid employment and university study are among the grounds for compulsory statutory insurance, but each has conditions and exceptions. An Iranian passport alone neither creates membership nor excludes it. Explain your residence status, work or study and previous insurance to the fund before choosing cover.
Family insurance is a separate assessment. Residence, income, other insurance and the family relationship matter; not every spouse or child is automatically covered. When you choose an eligible Krankenkasse, inform the employer or other reporting body promptly and confirm when membership begins.
