Studiengebühren: check your university's charges
Iranian students must check the exact German university, programme and semester before budgeting. Tuition and semester contributions are different. Non-EU fees can apply in some locations, while exemptions depend on individual circumstances and timely evidence.
Step by step
- Obtain the exact fee assessmentCheck the official programme and semester fees, ask about your non-EU classification and exemption evidence, then pay the confirmed amount by the university's deadline.
There is no safe nationwide assumption that an Iranian student pays no tuition. For example, Freie Universität Berlin charges semester fees and contributions and generally no tuition except continuing-education programmes. Its current semester invoice or portal amount is the relevant payment figure, not a previous student's bill.
Heidelberg's official information describes €1,500 tuition per semester for covered non-EU/EEA international students in undergraduate and consecutive master's programmes, with exceptions and exemption procedures. Iranian nationality alone does not establish an exemption; residence position or a German entrance qualification can matter. Ask the university to assess your case, check its evidence deadlines and budget compulsory semester contributions separately.
