Studying in Germany: Studium and residence
An Iranian national planning a Studium in Germany needs to coordinate university admission, the applicable national-visa route and residence permission. For residents of Iran, consult the German Embassy Tehran’s current student-visa instructions; in Berlin, the LEA handles study residence applications.
Step by step
- Arrange admissionCheck the institution’s entry requirements and obtain the admission evidence for your course.
- Follow your visa routeIf applying from Iran, follow Tehran’s current national student-visa procedure and category-specific evidence requirements.
- Apply for local study residenceUse the responsible immigration office’s study procedure; in Berlin submit online and keep the confirmation.
Section 16b concerns full-time study at a state or recognised institution and can include specified preparatory measures. Check the institution’s admission conditions separately; an admission letter does not itself grant immigration permission.
Tehran’s restricted-service notice lists student waiting-list categories and warns against approaching other missions on your own to accelerate the application. Iranian applicants resident in Iran should follow that mission’s instructions for their exact category rather than another country’s visa checklist.
In Berlin the study-residence application requires a qualifying admission or enrolment, secured livelihood, suitable German health cover and main residence in Berlin. Submit via the official online procedure and save its confirmation. Work alongside study is limited by the applicable title and § 16b; it is not unrestricted employment.
