Setting up Strom und Gas at home
An Iranian household in Germany follows the same electricity and gas supply rules as other households. Check what the rent includes and who supplies each meter. Using energy without choosing a contract can create a basic-supply contract; it is not free energy.
Step by step
- Clarify supply and registerCheck the rental arrangement, record the meters and readings, identify the supplier and arrange or notify supply; retain the contract and confirmation.
The local network operator can identify the basic supplier. The Bundesnetzagentur explains that supply can begin through actual use when no other contract has been arranged. If staying with basic supply, notify that supplier in writing and retain its confirmation.
Record your move-in meter readings and compare the stated basic charge, usage price and contract conditions before choosing another supplier. Basic supply and special contracts have different termination arrangements; do not transfer one contract’s conditions to another. Clarify separately whether gas is supplied directly to you or heating is arranged through the landlord.
