Applying for asylum (Asylantrag)
An Iranian national seeking protection in Germany should make the asylum request to the responsible authority and follow BAMF’s filing instructions. Filing is normally personal at the assigned BAMF branch; special situations require a different initial notification.
Step by step
- Make the protection requestTell the responsible authority that you seek asylum and follow the reception and referral instructions.
- Follow BAMF’s filing routeAttend the assigned filing appointment or follow the special notification instructions for your situation; use independent counselling if needed.
An asylum request and its formal filing are distinct steps. Under § 13 AsylG, a person without the required entry papers requests asylum at the border authority; after unauthorised entry they must promptly report to reception or request asylum through immigration authorities or police.
Section 14 normally assigns filing to the BAMF branch linked to your reception facility. It provides special notification procedures for specified residence-title holders, people in institutions and certain minors; BAMF decides the filing arrangements in those cases. Independent, voluntary and free asylum-procedure counselling under § 12a can help clarify your circumstances before the interview. Iranian nationality does not establish the outcome of an individual claim.
