Registering a birth at the Standesamt
Iranian parents must have a birth in Germany reported to the Standesamt for the place of birth, normally within one week. In Berlin, hospitals report births; parents report home births. Ask the office about Iranian civil-status documents, translations and the child’s name.
Step by step
- Confirm the notificationCheck the hospital notification, or submit the required home-birth confirmation to the registry office for the birthplace within one week.
- Complete the registration evidenceClarify the exact Iranian-document, translation and naming requirements with the Standesamt and supply the requested originals.
The competent registry office is determined by where the child was born, not where the parents live. In a Berlin hospital or birth centre, the institution sends the birth notification. For a home birth, parents submit the birth confirmation issued by the attending professional within one week.
Berlin requires original documents and German translations where needed. Its general checklist depends on the parents’ marital and family situation and is not exhaustive for foreign nationals. Ask the Standesamt specifically how your Iranian documents must be evidenced and authenticated before arranging extra paperwork.
A German birth certificate does not by itself mean German citizenship. For a child born in Germany to foreign parents, § 4(3) StAG requires one parent’s five years of lawful habitual residence and a qualifying permanent residence right at birth. The office checks the actual conditions.
